Berlin Meets Coney Island: Craft Beer at The Pier

By Andrew Cottrill . June 15, 2015

The Pier is a new craft beer bar that will be opening in Invalidenstr. 30 in August 2015. I spoke to owner Donald Burke about what we can expect.

I first met Donald, as many of you will have, as barman at Prenzlauer Berg’s The Bird. A big craft beer fan, I was excited to hear that he was opening his own bar.

“So the Pier is going to be a dual business. In the morning and afternoon it will be a deli. So that means coffee, soups, sandwiches, etc…

“Then, after 17:00, it will become a craft beer pub serving 15 beers on tap, plus even more in bottles and delicious small snacks.

“As a whole, the concept is Coney Island-meets-skatepark-meets-modern pub. At its heart it will be a pub, but we will also be holding events such as live music, a beamer showing games, etc.

“I have been trying to make this bar a reality for three years now. I’m very excited to be in the final stretch. I’m extremely grateful that the city did not give up on me, and I look forward to seeing you all there for more insanity once we open the doors.”

If the idea of a 15-tap craft beer bar has got you thirsty already, you won’t have to wait till August. The Pier will be throwing a Baustellenparty to correspond with Berlin Beer Week on Monday, June 15th from 4:00pm.

Entry is free and expect good food, fun and beer. Here’s a sample of some of the beers you can expect to see:
