US Pop-Rock Takeover Tonight at Postbahnhof: Cage the Elephant/Chrome Pony

By Andrew Cottrill . February 25, 2016

Cage the Elephant and Chrome Pony take to the stage tonight at Postbahnhof for an evening of anarchic garage rock and catchy rock ‘n’ roll tunes.

Berlin Loves You Cage the Elephant 1

Cage the Elephant first came to my attention with the release of their first, self-titled, album in 2008. Young and brash, they gave off an almost petulant air – young men on the road making rock music, breaking the rules and not giving a fuck. A quality that could turn some people off, whilst endearing others to them. The music wasn’t bad, either.

Since then, Cage the Elephant have continued making music. Their sound has matured. They’ve matured. And their latest album, Tell Me I’m Pretty, produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys (…I wish Dan’d produce his own albums these days and tell Danger Mouse to fuck off…), is a critically-successful collection of approachable and charming songs (still retaining Cage the Elephant’s unique personality) which’ll remind you of many of your favourite songs …in a good way.

Berlin Loves You Chrome Pony 1

Chrome Pony are a new band to me – but then, my drug dealer is always encouraging me to try new things. Fronted by two brothers (initially from Indiana, who formed the band in Nashville), the band creates high-energy rock ‘n’ roll that hints at the late ’60s/’70s. “High-energy” is a term a writer would use to avoid saying “fun”. Artists never want the thing they create to be referred to as “fun” (unless, of course, they design sex toys), but these guys are fun. You can imagine listening to them on lazy summer evenings with friends (a stretch of the imagination, looking out the window today as I write). Their tour supports the release of their latest EP, Past Lives, which was released last week.

Together, I think Chrome Pony/Cage the Elephant’s gig tonight at Postbahnhof will give anyone looking for a fix of jangly, danceable rock ‘n’ roll, that’s got humour, attitude and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Tickets are no longer available online, but you’ll be able to pick them up on the door tonight.

Competition! Competition! Competition! Competition! Competition!

We have 1×2 tickets to tonight’s gig to give away. If you’re interested in winning, simply email win@staging-berlinlovesyou.kinsta.cloud and put your favourite swear-word in the subject.
