The art space. On some streets in Berlin you may see two or three within a short distance from one another. Ever wonder if they’re at all connected? Is there a rhyme or reason to them? Does each one have their own individual language? Where do we find the answers?!

Fortunately these questions just might be answered with the opening of “The Grammar of the Independent Art Scene” Glocal perspectives on Independent cultural production – Chapter #1 ART SPACES BERLIN / KOREA presented by Asia contemporary art platform NON Berlin and Berlinerpool Arts Network. Together they want to, “test a systematic “grammatical” approach towards the way in which content is curated and delivered by these organizations.”

NON Berlin and Berlinerpool took the last couple of months observing the independent cultural landscape in both Korea and Berlin, and were amazed by its diversity. So for the first chapter in a long-term research study, independent art spaces, artist resi- dencies, art collectives and art archives from Berlin and Korea will take part in a dialogue to see, “How productive meaning can be created out of their content by making the invisible “visible”, evidencing rules of relationships between elements that make meaning possible, communicative and interactive.”
