It was a Friday afternoon like any other. I had just finished paying my weekly S- and U-Bahn ticket violation fines at Hauptbahnhof when I came across these guys giving out free meals to the poor and homeless people that call our fair Hauptstadt home. I took a closer look.

This was no soup kitchen – the visitors were enjoying a pasta salad made with sundried tomatoes, capers, black olives, red onions, parsley and tons of garlic, plus a half-baguette filled with cheese and salami. For a small donation lucky passersby could also partake in the food. I partook. This was restaurant-quality cuisine and I’ve paid more than €15 in restaurants for worse many, many times (and undoubtedly will again).

The food was lovingly prepared and donated by Barcomi’s, which has two locations in Berlin.

The event was organised by Christoph Bohlen, Jil Noack and Andre Richter (who also manned the stand) and was part of the Kunst Macht Satt initiative which uses art and artists to help support impoverished people all around Germany.
