Strange Magic Festival – Curiouser and curiouser

By BERLIN LOVES YOU . November 12, 2013

In the Berlin spirit of fleshing out any random hobby into a fully fledged festival, the Strange Magic Festival arrives at the Sophiensaele on the 19th of november. Strange Magic focuses on everything illusion and magic related within the theatrical arts. The program brings together a disparate group of performers and enthusiasts within a variety of formats, ranging from workshops and panel discussions to performances. The acts cast their interpretations of the theme widely both to provoke and entertain.

The primary concern is not necessarily about entertainment as form of escapism, but rather how can stage magic be combined with performance know how. Visibility vs. invisibility, knowledge and power, illusions and disillusions are the focus and point to the current social debate: who is manipulating and fooling whom?

The festival includes performances from Monster Truck, Anne Juren & Annie Dorsen, Bermester & Feigl, David Weber-Krebs, Florentina Holzinger & Vincent Riebeek. After each performance the audience is invited to join the cast and crew in the Magic Lounge to ponder and discuss, and of course, make use of the festival’s Magic Club complete with themed DJs.

With single tickets starting from around €14 and double tickets for €20, this small and quirky festival is a great opportunity to see magic being re-interpreted by some high caliber contemporary performers.
