2013 –> 2014
We’ve all been here before. It’s just after midnight on December 31st, you’ve just finished your second (maybe third?) bottle of frothing Rotkäppchen, eaten what is probably your third or fourth ‘big feast’ of the week, and are wondering what to do next. You know, or at least have been told, that going clubbing on Silvester (NYE) in Berlin is mayhem. Admission is usually twice the normal price (if not more) and most places are so full there isn’t even room to swing a cat, but still you feel the need to dance til dawn and welcome 2014 in with a bang (no not more feuerwerken).
So for those of you who wish to brave the ‘biggest’ night of the year, and there will always be many of you who do, here is a short list of our Top 4 Silvester parties where you can hear the best music, party like it’s 2014, and shake yo ass like it’s going out of fashion.
Berghain/Panorama Bar – Klubnacht Total: Silvester 2013/14
We’ll start with the most obvious choice and get it out of the way, this is the big one and wont stop until probably some time on the 2nd of January. Any night in Berghain brings with it (providing you make it past the bouncers) the promise of a hedonistic style night and day and night of non-stop, dark, pounding techno downstairs, with more edgy or trendy (depending on who you ask) hairstyle-house music upstairs in the Panorama Bar. This year will be no different, with top DJs such as Beats in Space head honcho Tim Sweeney among others joining the regular cast of club residents like Marcel Dettmann, Tama Sumo and the excellent Soundstream.

Salon zur Wilden Renate – Renates Grosse Silvestergala
Coming in a close second in terms of size and ambition is Renate’s Silverstergala offering. For those who have never been to the club, it is quite a beautiful and occasionally overwhelming labyrinth of different rooms, nooks, corners and dancefloors – all pulsating to a deep and warm house and disco beat. Der Dritte Raum will be showcasing their live electronic skills, supported by a stellar cast of excellent local and international talent such as Tevo Howard, the Permanent Vacation guys, Samanta Fox and many many more. Don’t expect this one to end too soon either!

Cookies – New Year’s Eve at Cookies
For something slightly more sophisticated, at least in theory, you could head to Cookies where Irishman Niall Mannion aka Mano Le Tough is poised to take you through the night with his signature brand of emotion-tinged house. It’s been a highly successful year for Mano and his fledgling record label Maeve, so expect a roller-coaster ride of varied tunes to reflect this. Support on the night in the main room comes from Peak & Swift (moonlighting from Wilde Renate) and Sean Patrick, while the delightful Eva Be will be hosting the Cream room.
