Chinese Post-Rock band Wang Wen – Tonight (Thursday) at Marie Antoinette
By John Perye . May 21, 2015
Did you know that today more and more young Chinese people are making the trip to Europe? On the flip side of that coin, more and more Europeans are increasingly getting turned onto Chinese culture. If you find yourself in the latter group, you might want to check out one of China’s most long-standing post-rock bands, Wang Wen.
In 1999, Wang Wen, which in Chinese means turning a deaf ear to something, was formed. They have released eight albums and have shared stages with bands such as Mogwai, Pg.lost, MONO, EF, and Immaul El. Their music is described as a “mix of sad sweet melodies, heavy, noisy guitars, and Chinese scales. Close your eyes and you will easily lose yourself in the ambiance created by their music. It always takes you back to the scenes of your favorite movies.”
Thursday’s show marks the end of an eleven-date European tour for the band, so Berlin fans, don’t miss this one!
