Berlin is full of surprises. Despite being a funky kid in the fashion world, Germany’s capital has also some high end products to offer, as for example Mykita.

Mykita is a modern manufactory glasses brand that shows through their innovative design and visionary use of materials that independent and commercial way of working can be side by side. With pioneering spirit, this Berlin based label won over fashionistas around the globe quite successfully, tough task in a market which is mainly ruled by big designers houses. The partnerships with Bernhard Willhelm, Romain Kremer, Marios Schwab and Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch (which I particularly love and follow the work for years), also helped to build up a consolidated fashion reputation.

And, with such success comes a little bit of fame: celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker and Ryan Reynolds boosted even more the hype of the brand by showing off their pair of Mykita’s glasses.
Also, the appearance in the last Paris Fashion Week for Damir Doma and Zero+Maria Cornejo shows has definitely made a statement in the fashion scene.

Talking business here, special attention to the Mykita Mylon collection that brings together refined aesthetic with high tech material – the Anselm and Sylvain models are 50’s alpine goggles inspired, with lightweight metal and strong light protection; a marriage of contrasts that produced a high performance pair of sunglasses. This collection gave Mykita the MATERIALICA Design und Technology Award 2013, for it is new usage of material.

The philosophy of Mykita  “ The strongest expression of independence is not utilising what already exists, but instead creating something original” is really paying off, with over 200 staff worldwide and represented in 56 countries, Mykita after eight years still managed to stay faithful to its Berlin roots, being handmade in Germany in a lovely rooftop 19th century building in Prenzlauer Berg.
