Berlin Beer Week is here between 13-20 June and offers the perfect chance to drink the best home-grown beer this city has to offer.
Every week is something in Berlin. Whether it’s Fashion Week, the Berlinale, or the recent Jazz Week, you’re never short of things to do. And, whilst all these weeks offer excellent opportunities to drink too much beer, what I like about Berlin Beer Week is that you don’t have to hide your lust for drinking beer behind any other guises. It’s just more honest.
Berlin Beer Week is a celebration of craft beer and brewing culture, taking place in more than 50 locations across Berlin.
Participants will include Berlin-based breweries such as Vagabund Brauerei, Brauhaus Lemke, Bierfabrik, Schoppe Bräu, Hops & Barley, BRLO, Stone Brewing GmbH, Brewbaker, Flessa Bräu and Flying Turtle, as well as breweries from other areas of Germany, Europe and the USA. In addition, various Berlin-based restaurants, bars, bottle shops and venues will be taking part and hosting events.
The week will involve a week of specialised beer events and other great excuses to be too hungover to go to work the next day. Here’s a few events we’ve picked out:
The Berlin Beer Week Official Opening Event
This opening party will take place at Brauerei Lemke on Saturday, June 13, 2015, Dircksenstraße 143, 10178 Berlin. This event will showcase the official Berlin Beer Week beer, a special collaboration beer brewed by local Berlin brewers as well as Lemke’s own selection of brews.
Climb for Craft: Beginner Beer Tasting
Friedrichshain’s craft beer stalwarts, Hops & Barley, are putting on an event to introduce beginners to the world of craft beer, with beer tasting and a host of information about craft beer and brewing. This event will take place on June 14.
Scottish Ales Paired with Traditional Scottish Food
The only thing better than drinking, is drinking AND eating. Throughout the whole week, Das Gift will be hosting events that pair Scottish ales with a matching menu of Scottish delicacies. There are two taster menus available, and for those who have not yet tried the absolute delight that is haggis… here’s your chance.
Craft beer brewers BRLO are taking over Kunsthalle Platoon for the whole week, creating a pop-up biergarten. Sit in the (hopefully) beaming sunshine and try BRLO’s Pale Ale, Helles and Baltic Porter beers in the company of a range of streetfood trucks and live music.
The Berlin Beer Week Official Closing Event
To close the week’s festivities, Stone Brewing GmbH will be hosting Berlin Beer Week’s official Closing Event at their soon-to-be open Berlin location on Saturday, June 20. Numerous breweries will be on-site, pouring a variety of special beers. Proceeds from the event will benefit a host of local charities and good causes.
Well, now you know you’ve got just under a month to wait until Berlin Beer Week, you’ve got two options. Option 1: Start practicing your beer drinking so when the week comes you’re ready to last all seven days, and Option 2: Begin a programme of abstinence from beer and an exercise regime so you lose enough wait to not feel guilty about all the beer and food you consume during Berlin Beer Week.
