Autumn is really something to see here in Berlin…. That is, when you can actually see it. Those painfully early sunsets and dark, rainy days can be a bit of a downer to those of us who are seasonally sensitive. But on those rare clear days, when the sun graces our tree-lined cobblestone streets, Autumn has a real magic about it; the colorful foliage, the orange glow of the late afternoon, the baskets of pumpkins outside every produce market. Go put on some warm socks and your multi-seasonal Hipster Scarf (I’m assuming that if you’re reading a Berlin blog, you probably have one of these), and have a late-season picnic. Volkspark Friedrichshain, Spreebogen Park, and the stretch of “beach” (i.e. sand dumped next to the river) behind the East Side Gallery are a few particularly good spots.
