Dive into a Kreuzberg Comedy Summer Camp with Daniel Stern

By Brendan Power . August 8, 2016

The Berlin English comedy scene has blossomed into a vibrant component of local nightlife in recent years. One of the latest newcomers to the scene is “High Dive”, a Tuesday night standup comedy showcase hosted and produced by local comedy mainstay, Daniel Stern.

“I want to cultivate a room that gives back equally to Berlin’s awesome comedy audience and to the artists who get on stage.”

Each Tuesday in August, Stern is curating a different selection of local comedians and visiting performers. High Dive’s menu of comedians aims to elevate the quality above your neighbourhood open mic without losing the loose ease and free spirit of comedic experiment and discovery. Located in Baumhaus Bar on the Kreuzberg end of Oberbaumbrücke, the venue also happens to be a great looking bar for having a cocktail and instagramming your attractive friends.

The show is focussed on pure stand up comedy, though that includes a wide range of voices. Goofy one liners, political rants, alternative comics and club professionals all make an appearance.

The debut night featured Berlin’s comedy godmother, Caroline Clifford of “We Are Not Gemüsed”. Future line ups include her Gemüsed partner, Paul Salamone, and other local favourites, Daniel Louis Vezza, Stefan Danziger and Amelia Jane Hunter.

If you know Stern from his live talk show, “Night Show Berlin”, absurd sketch comedy projects like “A Night With Carl’s Chickens” or the Berlin news in English podcast, “Radio Spaetkauf”, you won’t be surprised to see him hosting High Dive with a pleasant mix of jovial ramblings and polished material. Stern also has a fair take on the role of comedy in our lives:

“Maybe the world has become a horrifying mess and a nightmare to wake up to each day, but come on, it’s still pretty funny.”
