La Luz To Drench Musik & Frieden in So-Cal Psychedelic Nostalgia
By Allison Krupp . October 1, 2018
Daydreamy psychedelic rockers La Luz take Musik & Frieden on October 2, with support from Peggy Sue.
La Luz is singer/guitarist Shana Cleveland, keyboardist Alice Sandahl, drummer Marian li Pino, and bassist Lena Simon. I’ve been hungry for their achy, feel-nostalgic-for-the-moment-even-while-it’s-happening music for several years, and especially after the release of their 2015 release, Weirdo Shrine, which was produced by Ty Segall and more-or-less became key in the soundtrack for my first, incredibly heart-wrenching year in Berlin. Nothing like gazing across a foggy, wind-swept Tempelhofer Feld listening to “Sleep Till They Die.”

Recently, La Luz fled the grey fog of Seattle for the So-Cal coast. In the midst of their move, they released third album Floating Features, a more classic-feeling, almost spaghetti-western-ish album. It’s cinematic, and completely bizarre, with surrealist lyrics, and tracks like “The Greed Machine” linking being broke to a classical villain, or someone lurking behind you at night. “In my rearview mirror, it’s always coming nearer.”
Support indie folk duo Peggy Sue hails from Brighton and consists of Rosa Slade and Katy Young. You probably know their wild, gut-wrenching cover of “Fools Rush In,” or their other, more twee folk.
