Ghoulish occult-rock band Ghost B.C. bring their over-the-top and most certainly very entertaining live show to Berlin on Tuesday April 25th. Having made several stops in Berlin over their years, most notably supporting Iron Maiden at the Waldbühne last year, the band bring their ‘Popestar’ tour to Huxleys Neue Welt.

Hailing from the hellish wastelands of Sweden (at least, we’d like to imagine it’s like that in Linköping…), Ghost B.C.’s manic mix of trad-heavy metal and rock pomp has set them apart from the crowd for several years now. Still maintaining their position as kings of the neo-occult-rock movement, Ghost B.C. have spent the past eight or so years refining their impressive sound and show. Think Black Sabbath (you probably already are), Mercyful Fate or Pentagram meets Alice Cooper and GWAR.
Co-opting religious imagery in metal music is hardly a new thing, yet Ghost B.C’s impressive stage outfits are certainly a welcome sight. Enigmatic singer Papa Emeritus’ theatrical singing style, coupled with his ‘devil-pope’ outfit, adds a refreshing element of pop to proceedings. Unsurprisingly, there’s something unnerving about watching a band fronted by a devilish pope flanked by a motley crüe of ghouls. Ghost B.C.’s decision to shroud the identities of its members in mystery has led to all kinds of rumours about who is part of the band. Even Dave Grohl was claimed to have been a member at one stage.
Not since the good old days has a band so effectively skewed religious imagery and devil worship as Ghost B.C. do. Back to give an unholy sermon to Berlin’s black-clad congregation.
BERLINLOVESYOU has 2×2 tickets available for you to join this (nearly…) midnight mass. Drop us an email to [email protected] and we’ll pick the winners at random on Friday 21st April.
