Volkswagen Shows Berlin the Future of Cars

By Andrew Cottrill . July 9, 2018

What’s the future for cars and city transport? All-electric? Self-driving? Volkswagen offers us a peek at their Vizzion.

The ’50s dream of jet-powered flying bubble cars does seem pretty kitsch and outdated, especially as we’re entering a time when electric cars are accepted as the future and a lot of the discussion in the automotive industry surrounds self-driving cars. But how will self-driving cars work? What will they look like? And how will this technology transform the transport infrastructure of our cities?

From now until 14th October 2018, Volkswagen will attempt to answer these questions inviting you to share in their vision for the future of cars and mobility. They will also be showcasing some of their brand new self-driving concept models, the I.D. series.

Driving Vizzions to Reality

‘Driving Vizzions to Reality’ shows the world Volkswagen’s vision for the future. It’s a free exhibition at the DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum on Friedrichstraße 84.

The exhibition will take a fun and interactive approach to answering the big questions about tomorrow’s transport systems, such as how driver assistance systems or self-driving cars will change traffic, what will future mobility solutions look like beyond the car and whether micro-mobility will be the next big market.

VW’s I.D. Self-Driving and Electric-Powered Cars

‘Driving Vizzions to Reality’ is Berlin’s chance to get acquainted with Volkswagen’s I.D. Family of concept cars, which VW plans to roll into production by 2022 at the latest.

At the exhibition, you’ll be able to visit and learn about the new I.D. Vizzion and I.D. Crozz cars.

The I.D. Crozz is a fully electric SUV that will use augmented reality to give the driver information on traffic, road conditions, the car’s status etc. It will have an 83-kWh battery which will allow the car to cover 350-500km on one charge, depending on the model, and will have autonomous driving capabilities.

The I.D. Vizzion is VW’s new flagship prototype and vision of the future: it’s 100% electric, it’s designed for a driverless world and stepping inside it will feel like you’ve never left your living room. It’ll know who you are via facial recognition, remember your lighting/seating/warmth preferences and even have your favourite music and TV shows/films queued up ready for you to enjoy your journey in complete comfort.

Their ‘Vizzion’ is a luxurious one and Volkswagen believes that in around 12 years’ time, we could all be enjoying this driverless technology. See this future technology first by visiting ‘Driving Vizzions to Reality’ at DRIVE.

Let’s face it, Segways just looked crap.

Yeah, people looked like idiots on Segways. But they did open up the intelligent conversation of micro-mobility – small, emission-free devices to help us get quickly from A to B over short to medium distances. Preferably without looking like a prototype RoboCop.

At the ‘Driving Vizzions to Reality’ exhibition, Volkswagen will also be unveiling their I.D. Cityskate series of sleek, electric scooter and bike-type gizmos. Lightweight, foldable and fast, the I.D. Cityskate series might even remove the need for many inner-city car owners to even have a car.

The “DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum” is open seven days a week from 10:00am to 6:00pm until October 14th. Admission is free of charge. More details are available at www.drive-volkswagen-group.com.
