Berlin Loves You Presents…Fifth Floor #VIII
Berlin Loves You are proud to be presenting Fifth Floor‘s latest secret musical happening in Berlin. This small events collective have been curating gigs around the world at secret locations over the past year. For the series’ 8th event, it’s Berlin’s chance to experience what these guys are all about.
Music Lovers – Keep Friday 9th February Free
Fifth Floor have put together a lineup of shit-hot Berlin bands for their next gig. Headlining are All The Ghosts, a much-hyped rock band who have recently sold out Friedrichshain’s Urban Spree venue. Violet Fields (formerly Spinning Lamps) are a pounding psych-rock band and opening the night are charming indie slackers Mondo Fumatore.
The bands will take to the stage in a soon-to-be-revealed location somewhere in Berlin on Friday 9th February 2018. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for an announcement.
The first 100 to join the event page will get into the gig for half price (€5).
We sat down with Fifth Floor for a chat to hear more about their concept.
Why have you chosen this particular lineup?
Our lineups are always focused on guitar bands – psychedelic, rock n roll, indie rock etc. Essentially, we want bands that put on a great live show. We’ve worked with All The Ghosts in the past and these guys always bring a powerful live energy that is rare to find these days. Violet Fields and Mondo Fumatore are both loud psych rock bands that are exactly what we’re all about – bands that are loud and sure to bring an electrifying energy to the show.
What do you think of Berlin’s rock music scene?
Berlin has a small but fast-growing rock music scene. There are always great new bands starting up but the only problem is the lack of small clubs for new bands to play in. There are tons of big venues for touring acts but there’s just not enough options for small club shows of 50-100 capacity.
The music scene is growing every day with more talented artists moving to Berlin all the time. Take a look at the band Parcels for example – I met these guys when they just arrived in Berlin from Byron Bay. Six months later they’re huge and are working with Daft Punk.
What are your favourite Berlin venues?
Some of the best rock n roll shows I’ve seen are at small venues like West Germany, Garage Pankow and Loophole. The classic venues like Bassy, 8mm, Auster Club, Monarch, SO36, FluxBau are all great for live gigs too.
What do you make of the recent news that both Bassy Club and Privatclub are going to close?
It’s a real shame when any live music venue is closed down. Bassy is certainly one of Berlin’s most iconic live music venues that support up and coming bands. The ’60s club vibe is great for live music and afterparty DJ sets, I think we’ll all miss that groovy disco ball dance floor…
What does the future hold for music promoters in Berlin?
Berlin will always have an exciting local music scene for promoters to put on shows as long as small clubs keep opening. Small clubs keep the music alive and give bands motivation to book shows and release new records. We need another CBGB’s, this would be great, maybe something is coming…
