On Saturday 23rd June, Tentacion Mezcalothek celebrates its second birthday party with a Oaxacan buffet. Join them!
For the past two years, Tentacion Mezcalothek and Craft Beer bar has been a secret refuge for lovers of authentic Mexican food and drinks, just a sidestreet off Friedrichshain’s tourist stomping ground.
Stepping inside is like entering owners Fernando and Fernanda’s living room, where you’re lovingly treated to Fernando’s homecooked Mexican food, Fernanda’s self-brewed Mexican craft beer and a massive range of mezcals.
Tentacion, here’s to you:
On Saturday 23rd June, they’re throwing a big party to celebrate their last two years. Come along to experience an authentic Oaxacan buffet, plus 2-for-1 offers on margarita cocktails and pulques (a traditional Mexican drink).
I spoke to Fernando about the party, mullets and their last two years in business.
Firstly, what happened to your glorious mullet?
It’s summer and to be honest I can’t stand having long hair… even if that meant my glorious mullet had to go. And beside of the that, the boss (Fernanda) didn’t like it.
What can we expect from your 2nd birthday party?
Good vibes, good drinks, good music and, of course, the best Mexican food in town.
What does a Oaxacan buffet include?
Salsa de queso/huevo, Salsa de chicharron/chorizo (a spicy tomato sauce with a veggie and a meaty option), black bean paste, papas con rajas (potatoes with poblano chili slices), pure de papa itsmeño (baked potato puree) and much more!
How has Tentacion changed over the two years?
At the beginning we were focussing only on craft beers but then we realised that the people were eager to know more about the mezcal.
So Berlin’s approach to Mezcal has changed?
A lot of people know more about mezcal now. They even know the differences between mezcal and tequila. Some mezcal lovers visit us who’ve gone to Oaxaca, or are planning a visit to Oaxaca, and others with whom I can talk about mezcal with as if they were actual Oaxacans.
Where do you go for a taste of home in Berlin?
To be honest, I don’t go to Mexican places. I’m very fussy with Mexican food. But the guys from Sabor a mi are preparing some good stuff.
Do you have anything special planned for your third year?
We want to bottle our Mala Vida beer so people can buy it more easily.
If you could, what would you tell yourself two years ago that you know now?
Since we started with Tentacion, I repeat to myself the same poem over and over, Roll the Dice by Charles Bukowski.
The party starts at 19Uhr on Saturday 23rd June.
