Tech Open Air Is Back With More Warnings Of The Future

By Martin Stokes . May 28, 2018

It’s that time of year again – no, not GEGEN. Tech Open Air 2018.

The annual festival of startups, creators and anyone invested in the tech business gathers for four days a year for a series of talks, lectures and workshops aimed at discussing the transformative (and disruptive) power of technology.

Expect anything from talks on self-driving cars, the use of blockchains, the crash of Bitcoin, the inevitable robot war, to symposiums on how our privacy is being leached from us one like at a time. TOA is a collaborative festival that allows members of the public, professionals and experts from different disciplines the chance to come together with the shared aim of, “helping people future-proof their businesses and lives.”

This year the speakers include Daniel Drepper, the editor-in-chief of Buzzfeed Germany, Lily Peng, a researcher at Google, and Boyan Slat, the 23 year old wunderkind whose company The Ocean Cleanup is helping rid our oceans of plastic and other detritus.

There will also be a massive exhibition space – the Haus of Tech – where visitors will see cutting edge technologies, interactive projects, and meet with the makers and designers who are responsible for bringing them all to life.

TOA takes place from the 19th-22nd of June at one of Berlin’s most prestigious venues, Funkhaus Berlin. There will also be hundreds of satellite events occurring around the city, hosted by Berlin’s community of startups and creatives, that will connect visitors with Berlin’s many thought leaders and other pioneers.
