This Sunday March 15th, get your green asses down to a lovely little corner of Kreuzberg, Jockel Biergarten, which for one day only, will be transformed into a little German corner of Ireland, as the 5th St. Patrick’s Day Berlin Festival gets underway.  As always, the main aim of the festival is to celebrate both Irish culture in Germany, and the special friendship of modern day Germans and Irish, just don’t make any jokes about the bank bailout, we’ve been there and done that already.
spfb2014_parade_AAs usual, the festivities kick off with the iconic St Patrick’s Day Parade, which begins at Oranienplatz at 14hr, and is lead by the Berlin Pipe Company and friends.  To take part in the parade, which is great fun, all you really need to do is wear something green and you will fit right in as it marches through the streets of Kreuzberg on Sunday.  Once the parade ends at 15hr at the Jockel Biergarten, a feast of Celtic music and Irish dancing awaits, with a 6 hour concert packed full of craic agus ceol including a very special performance by acclaimed traditional Irish band, Skipper’s Allley, and dance group Irish Beats Berlin (see both below).  Also provided will be Irish food stalls, drinks prepared by one of Ireland’s leading mixologists, as well coffee, Gaelic games, and, we’ve been assured, plenty of outdoor heaters in case the weather gets chilly.

Finally once the concert is over, the after party begins with the very talented Irish DJs from Kleine Reise doing their thing  long into the night.  This promises to be a great fun day and evening for all the family, whether you’re from Germany or Guatemala, everyone is Irish on St. Paddy’s day!
