TEAM I LAB I ABOUT I CONTACT

Resistant to labels, Berliners acquire a smattering of descriptions. Artistic, perhaps. Edgy. Outside of time. Regardless, we’re here as runners, searching for a certain je ne sais quoi in our lives and perhaps finding a glimmer of it here, in this bizarro-world city.

DAILYPORTRAITBERLIN_BERLINLOVESYOU_7But behind each of our closed doors, tucked up in our little cheapo WGs, we’re all, at times, stripped down. Bare-assed. Lumpy-assed, maybe, or bone-stick-thin. Tattooed, probably, or with stretch marks marking time across our thighs. Is this when we’re most honest, most resistant to definition? When we’re naked, are we closest to who we are?

Daily Portrait Berlin is a kind of tapeworm wiggling its way across Berlin, with cameras passed from hand-to-hand. Complete strangers ring doorbells, asking that gut-wrenching question: “Will you get undressed for me?”

DAILYPORTRAITBERLIN_BERLINLOVESYOU_6And the subsequent few minutes create the layered tapestry of Daily Portraits Berlin: with the photographer and the model building a dialogue, facing-off, shredding through that initial label of “stranger” and finding a kind of truth.

Every day, a new person strips. Every day, a stranger shoots. And this has led to 381 unique portraits of naked Berliners, all in their natural environment: their eyes centered, their bodies poised, somehow finding strength, despite imperfection.

DAILYPORTRAITBERLIN_BERLINLOVESYOU_1“With Daily Portrait Berlin, we want to show people in an authentic way, while at the same time encouraging real-life connections and interactions—away from social media and the digital world—and create a community where people in Berlin can meet without prejudice and fear and be who they are, without censorship and predefined attitudes.”

Pre-order Daily Portrait Berlin on this crowdfunding page ONLY, until March 23, 2017.

There’s no other possibility to receive this unique, mirror-image of the city you love, a city that’s become a part of your visual makeup, as well. It’s your muscled legs from the U-bahn steps. It’s your two-euro beer belly. It’s your Tinder hickey. It’s your wistful eyes, gazing out over the Spree, still dreaming about what you could be.
